Located immediately to the east of Canary Wharf, the construction of London’s newest neighbourhood, Wood Wharf, is well underway.
The Wood Wharf development will deliver an impressive 5.5 million square feet of mixed-use development, comprising some 2 million square feet of office space, 400,000 square feet of retail and community space, and 3,600 new homes across a 23-acre site.
Westok has played a key role in this development already, having successfully supplied over 1200 tonnes of plate girders across the commercial blocks B3, D1, D2, and G5.
Our most recent venture on this site is One Charter Street, a 21-storey aparthotel at Block B2 in Wood Wharf. This fast-moving construction project employs MMC/modular as the construction methodology, consisting of 17 storeys of volumetric modular frames to deliver 279 serviced apartments.
Following hastily arranged meetings, Westok was asked to assist in the manufacture of the Steel Fabricated Frames which form the basis of the Volumetric Modules. Within the 78 frames built, multiple configurations were catered for to give the interior space required. All materials were sourced, processed, and fabricated at our Westok site in Leeds to produce the hybrid frames. These were then painted before being fitted out with galvanised CFS cross members and underdrawings.
In order to meet the tight delivery programme, we were able to modify and adapt our works to suit. Floor and frame jigs were manufactured and utilised to increase production and maximise shop hours to successfully hit target dates.
Westok is an EXC-4 qualified steelwork fabricator, and we have been active in the modular sector for a number of years, producing component parts, sub-assemblies, and as above fully fabricated frames.
