2205 DUPLEX STAINLESS STEEL
Duplex 2205 is the most widely used Duplex Stainless Steel on the market, known for its excellent combination of corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength. Its performance in both uniform and localised corrosion, such as pitting and crevice corrosion, makes it ideal for demanding environments.
Thanks to its high chromium and nitrogen content, along with molybdenum, Duplex 2205 forms a strong passive layer that significantly enhances corrosion resistance. This alloy is particularly effective in resisting stress corrosion cracking (SCC), a common issue in many Stainless Steels under tensile stress in corrosive environments.
The Duplex microstructure, a balanced mix of austenite and ferrite phases, provides Duplex 2205 with:
- High yield strength (approximately twice that of austenitic stainless steels)
- Improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking
- Superior resistance to abrasion and erosion
